How to Buy a Real Registered Driver's License
Over the years, law enforcement has tried many things to combat fake IDs. Holograms, water marks, bar-coding and dual photos have been employed, but all of them can be thwarted by sophisticated counterfeiters.
Two documents proving New York State residence are required to get a REAL or enhanced ID. Examples include your current driver's license or non-driver ID, utility bill or bank statement, or a pay stub.
Real Documents Unit
The Real Documents Unit processes and renews licenses of those who are not eligible to receive an ID card for drivers or a non-driver identification cards due to medical issues. This process involves examining the medical records of an individual and determining if they're safe to drive a vehicle. If not, then the license of the person could be cancelled.
If a nurse or doctor treating a patient write a report that indicates that the patient cannot safely drive or doesn't intend to drive any longer, that person is considered to suffer from a medical issue. This report may be used by the DMV to restrict the driver's license or suspend or revoke the ability of a driver to drive.
You must provide authentic documents that prove your identity and address to get a driver's licence that is registered. The documents you submit must be official and current. The type of document that you can use to prove your address is an utility bill, lease agreement, bank statement or the pay stub. You can also use a duplicate of your Social Security Card to confirm your address and identity. After your application is completed, you can visit any Secretary of State Driver Services facility to take your photo and take any required exams. Real Driver's Licence
The Real Driver's Licenses are a new type of identification that is in compliance with the federal Real ID Act. The law sets minimum security standards for state issued permits and drivers' licenses and ID cards. Federal agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration are prohibited from accepting any ID card that doesn't meet the standards. In October 2017, DMV began issuing Real IDs. The IDs appear different than standard driver's licences and have an image of an engraved. The enhanced ID comes with an RFID (RF) chip that authorities can read electronically at a border checkpoint from 30 to 30 feet. The IDs are barcode and machine-readable areas that authorities can manually read in the event that the RFID chips are not working.
People who don't want to obtain a Real ID can still use their current license or an expired one for travel within the country. If they intend to travel by plane or enter a federal facility, they will need another government-accepted ID, such as passports or military identification. Passports can be purchased at their local post office for less than the price of a Real ID issued by the DMV.
If you decide to get an enhanced or Real ID You will need to go to the DMV to apply. You can't apply via the internet, by telephone, or through mail. You must bring these documents to the local DMV. They are: proof of identification like driver's license, passport, or birth certificate; proof of Social Security Number or ineligibility for Social Security Number; proof date of birth; two different evidences of New York state residence. You must also possess a valid photo.

It is important to know that a New York enhanced or Real ID is more expensive than a standard driver's license. This is due to the extra security features and the appearance. New legislation has been introduced that would waive the normal transaction fee for people who get a Real or enhanced ID, but that is not yet in effect. Plan accordingly for the future. If you frequently travel, it is worth getting a Real ID or enhanced ID. This is particularly relevant if you plan to fly within the United States. The additional security features will make you more comfortable in airports and at your destination.
